映画「ストーカー」からはいくつも考えるヒントがあります。
音楽について直接語った台詞：

タルコフスキー監督の使用する音楽は特徴的です。
クラシック音楽からはバッハのマタイ、ベートーヴェンの第九、ラベルのボレロなどこれでもかと言わんばかり、あるいは、垢が付いてしまうくらいの名曲中の名曲を使ったかと思うと、日本でもなかなか聴かれていない海童道の音源（サクリファイス）を使ったりしています。水の音や自然音も見事に使われています。かなり音にはこだわった方と思われます。やたらに音楽は使いません。音楽とは「考える」ことを拒否させるトゥールでもあることを熟知していたのでしょう。
上の台詞のように楽天的に考えているかというと、ほかの台詞では：

と自虐的な台詞もあり、また、ストーカー（密猟者）仲間の「ヤマアラシ」の弟の詩として「何かが足りない」と連呼したり：

すべての出来事が
この手の中に横たわったとしても

あるいは、何があろうと求め続ける願いとして：

タルコフスキー監督はチェルノブイリ原発事故の7年前にこのストーカーを撮り、チェルノブイリ原発事故の二週間前に遺作「サクリファイス」を発表。サクリファイスは、どこかの原発が爆発したところから始まります。その四年後1990年に黒澤明監督は「赤富士」を撮りフクシマを予見してます。
現在、世の中、大きな替わり目にあります。こんな時だからこそ音楽を、美術を、ダンスを、文学を！

Music, for example. There are only slight connections to our reality, no ideology, they are just the enumeration of mechanical sounds. But somehow music touches our spirit. What does correspond to the music in ourselves? What elements of music makes us happy, connect each other, move? Are there any need? For whom?
You may say there is no reason, but just pure action.
It may be wrong. Everything has value and meaning. Meanings and reasons.

The music which Tarkovsky uses in his film has some characters. From classical music, he uses J.S.Bach’s Mathew, Beethoven’s 9th symphony, Ravel’s Bolero etc. They are most excellent music in Western world almost everyone can not help agree. On the other hand, he uses the music of Wadazumido in Sacrifice which is not listened to well even in Japan. He uses the sound of water, nature very carefully and beautifully. And he doe not use sounds or music often in his films. He knows quite well that music makes people reject thinking.
Like the lines above, he seems positive about music. But in the other lines he is very masochistic.

Mr. Tarkovsky filmed this Stalker in 1979. It was 7 years before Chernobyl explosion. Sacrifice ( his last film ) was open to public 2 weeks before Chernobyl. ( the film opens at the scene when some nuclear factories exploded. ) 4 years later, in 1990, Akira Kurosawa filmed “ AKA-FUJI red Mt.Fuji). It foresees Fukushima disaster.
Now it seems this world is changing drastically. We need now Music, Dance, Arts, Poetry, Literature!!
